What and how do you hunt?
I started hunting with my father when I was 12 years old. We went bird hunting in our home forest in the North-East part of Finland. When I turned 17 I began hunting moose with our home village hunting club. Now I enjoy a variety of hunting types. I have two wire-haired dachshunds, and with them, I frequently hunt roe deer, white-tailed deer, and hare. Additionally, I hunt moose and birds (both duck and forest birds) and occasionally I hunt wild-boar.
What is the most important aspect of training dogs?
The most crucial aspect of training hunting dogs is spending enough time with them in the forest. During the hunting season, I try to take my dogs out twice a week for training or hunting, and they also get daily exercise at home.
Which Tracker feature do you find most useful?
Reliability is the most important feature. Dog positioning is key, along with data on the dog’s activity, such as bark count, speed, and running distance. The safety features are also great, ensuring safe and undisturbed hunting and training sessions.
What is the most memorable moment you’ve experienced in the forest with Tracker?
The most memorable moment was when my dog crossed the Russian border for a couple of days. I was able to track my dog’s movements using the Tracker app. It was a very memorable and nerve-wracking two days until my dog finally returned to the Finnish side of the border.
What is your favorite equipment from Tracker?
My favorite equipment is the new Luna dog GPS. I have been involved in its development since the early concept phase. Our team has combined 20 years of experience and knowledge from several companies (Ultracom, Tracker, and WeHunt) to create an outstanding final product.
Do you use our products in any unexpected ways?
I often leave one of my dog trackers in my car when I hunt. It’s useful to see the car’s position, especially if someone else needs to move it during the hunt.
What is the most common mistake hunters make when using our products?
Most problems arise when hunters dont familiarize themselves enough with our products before heading into the forest. Make sure you update the app, turn on your Tracker to update it, go through the settings, charge the batteries, and check that your WeHunt subscription is active.
If you could go on a dream hunt anywhere in the world, what would you hunt and where would you go?
My dream hunt would be forest bird hunting in Finnish Lapland or in my home hunting club area in the North-East part of Finland. That is where I love to be and wish to spend more time.
